Hey! Let's SEE where all SOS members really are!!! OpenStreetMap has a search for US Zip codes. If one enters the full zip code (the first 5 digits plus the "extra" four, OpenStreetMap can "locate" you and present a streetmap of your location. For example, my Victoria complete zip is: 77901-3088 Entering that zip and searching will pull up a map and at the lower right hand corner is a "Permalink". Using the zip above, the permalink is: http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=28.80642&lon=-96.99356&zoom=15&layers=B0FT That will get you Victoria, Tx. OpenStreetMap: http://www.openstreetmap.org How would you use it? How about this ... in a "getting to know one another" section of a Moodle, create an assignment where students would have to use OpenStreetMap to create a link and include it in their Journal (About Me). It has Export ability ... exporting allows saving the map as png or jpg and one could export the data in XML format (which could lead to other projects using other software). How about a "sluething game" of your own construction? Where is the world is this? and then provide a permalink that doesn't disclose any labels, etc. that indicates a place name ... only streets. One could include "hints". At this location, one could find X, Y, and Z. Here's a ShowMeDo video on OpenStreetMap http://showmedo.com/videos/video?name=1800000&fromSeriesID=180
