Two well known research entities (Forrester and Gartner) disagree (somewhat), but ... Forrester vs. Gartner ... Web 2.0 ... who's right? 14 July 2008 Techies to help push Web 2.0 technologies By CG Lynch, CIO.com "... according to a new Forrester report that found that 63 percent of IT professionals expected to see Web 2.0 technologies have a moderate or substantial impact on the business." "... the Forrester report is in stark contrast with a recent one from Gartner, which claimed that IT was an inhibitor to the take-up of newer technologies." Along those same lines and logic ... IF an ISD uses "we must have X because students will face X in their future", then it should also (probably) follow that if Corp usage of Web 2.0 is increasing then ISD usage of Web 2.0 should also. That make sense? To me, that translates to the following ... a Linux server will be in your future because it is the best OS for the Web 2.0 job! :) Reference: http://www.techworld.com/applications/news/index.cfm?newsid=102140
