for students grades 3-5 this summer.  Activities will include Logo Robotics and Digital movie making. That's not unusual as many ISD's do something similar.

What might make this summer event unusual is VISD's approach.  VISD will be using an open source (and free) networked Moodle (Modular Object Oriented Dynamic Learning System) per campus plus an Elementary Moodle HUB (eHub) as a part of the Camp activities.  Students will be meeting face-to-face and the students from the 11 Elementary campuses will login (LDAP) to their own Moodles for campus related activities.  But, via a Tech Camp 2010 course in their campus Moodle, however, students can meet and collaborate in the eHub with just a couple of mouse clicks and without having to login to the eHub (single sign on).

Students and Staff can continue their activities after the F-2-F sessions have ended for the day as all Moodles are accessible from home.  Students will be able to show their parents what they learned in Camp each day. They can continue writing in their Journal, post messages in forums, and also socialize (chat/IM) with students across town in a safe environment.

Take a gander!
